Body Temperature Monitoring at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse

BTM Kiosk.jpg

Chris O’Brien Lifehouse is a leading comprehensive cancer centre in Sydney. At Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, the safety of everyone entering the centre is a priority, especially the vulnerable patient community, many of whom have suppressed immune systems.
With COVID-19, the hospital introduced a concierge at all entrances to screen the temperatures of people coming into the centre. Anyone with an abnormal temperature would not be able to enter the facility.
The concierge took temperatures via a hand-held scanning gun but the close proximity to the person being screened put them at some risk of COVID-19 transmission, despite the correct precautions being taken. Some visitors also found the screening process a little confronting.
To help solve these problems, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse worked with Yeager Aerospace to install a Body Temperature Monitoring (BTM) Kiosk in the Radiation Oncology building. The BTM Kiosk takes the individual temperature of each visitor on entry to within 0.3° Celsius in a safe a non-intrusive way.
The BTM Kiosk is standalone and can be connected to a separate computer and monitor where the visitor’s temperature will be displayed, allowing social distancing rules to be observed. If the BTM Kiosk records an abnormal temperature, the device emits an audible warning and records the data. The Kiosk is portable allowing for the changing needs of the facility.
Some of the other features of the BTM Kiosk which are not used at Chris O’ Brien Lifehouse are door entry control, facial recognition, time and date stamps and integration with electronic security systems.
